Submit your abstract

To submit your abstract please note the following guidelines:

Abstracts must not be more than a maximum of 3 pages in length and must state in which topic you are proposing to enter your paper.
You should ensure that you clearly state your name, company, job title, and the e-mail address at which we can contact you.
Abstracts must set out the following elements:
- The scope of the subject
- The issues at stake
- Objectives or proposed outcome
- Potential for implementation and added value to managing safety at the road rail/interface
  Please ensure that in your abstract you emphasise the added value to the railway operator that will result from the reduction of risk.
Abstracts must be written in English using MS Word or saved in a PDF file and in 12pt Times New Roman. They must then be submitted electronically to suzuki uic.org
Please note that abstracts that are seeking to market a particular product or service will not be accepted. There will, however, be an exhibition at which products and services can be promoted.
Abstracts accepted will be presented during the symposium and must be accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation in PowerPoint 97 or later version. A full explanatory paper may also be prepared.
Symposium delegates will receive the abstracts as part of their Conference pack. The papers/slides will be published on the symposium website.
Please also note that for selection of the abstracts, UIC, the organizer of the symposium, will judge impartially with comprehensive and thorough consideration of the following aspects; purpose of the symposium, usefulness of the paper, new ideas incorporated in the paper, and balance among the regions.

11th Level Crossing Symposium organised by EJRC

The Global Level Crossing Symposium (GLX) is a forum that brings together safety professionals from around the globe in order to exchange information and provide experiences and lessons for improving the way in which the interface between the road and rail systems is managed at level crossings.

The first GLX was held in 1990 as a result of an initiative of the US and now GLX is a biennial event held each even-numbered year. The previous event, GLX 2008 was held in Paris and attracted about 170 delegates from 5 continents. Participants of the symposium have been from the road sector, the rail sector, police and law enforcement agencies and government agencies. We are very pleased to advise you that the 11th GLX Symposium will be held in Tokyo, Japan. One of the most important themes, preventing accidents at level-crossings, is considered as coming from cooperation between the rail and road sectors, road administration agencies and users of the level-crossing. Accordingly, the theme of the 11th GLX Symposium will be 'Toward further improvement of level crossing safety - Coordinated Approach and Individual Efforts'.

Welcome Message

The UIC and East Japan Railway Co. are delighted to invite you to the 11th Global Level Crossing Symposium to be held in Tokyo, from the 26th- 29th October 2010. First of all, I would like to thank the project team of people devoted to making this event a success. The 11th Symposium will be the first time that an Asian venue, Tokyo, has hosted the event. This symposium is a forum that brings together Level Crossing professionals from around the globe in order to exchange information and provide safety technology, experiences and lessons for improving Risk Management for the interface between the road and rail systems at level crossings that is of concern to railway companies everywhere. The symposium program will no doubt be of interest to all those involved in the level crossing field as it will feature the sessions such as ‘Classifying of risk at the level-crossing', ‘Technological activities of crossing facilities', 'The act and psychology of the users of the level-crossing', ‘Partnership toward the level-crossing accidents', “Regulations and Innovation regarding Level Crossing” , besides a functional technical visit of looking at actual level crossings equipped with safety technology in Japan. It is our hope that the symposium will promote clarifying the key issues surrounding management of how we can reduce the risks which we have been facing for a long time. And we will do our best to make the 11th GLX provide you with a valuable opportunity to share ideas on an international basis with other participating experts and researchers from around the world. You will also have the chance to experience a myriad of Japanese tourist and cultural attractions that are exceptional and exciting. The conference venue is the center of Tokyo, where there is plenty that will leave you with unforgettable memories of Tokyo and its warm and welcoming people.

Fee

Registration fee is to be paid at the reception desk of the official hotel “Metropolitan Edmont” . Those participants who stay at Metropolitan Edmont should pay the fee upon check-out. Those participants who stay at other hotels should visit the reception desk of Metropolitan Edmont during the Symposium to pay the fee.

Room rate (per room, per night):

Single (18 sqm) JPY 13,500 for 1 person = 106 EUR
Twin room (26 sqm/2 single beds) JPY 10,000 = 79 EUR per person
Twin room (26 sqm) for single use JPY 15,500 = 123 EUR per person

Rates include tax, service charge and breakfast.
